The consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol  can be dramatic.   This also applies to driving under the influence of illegal drugs or prescription drugs.  The current BAC level is .08.

A DUI is a class one misdemeanor which carries up to one year in jail and a $2,500.00 fine.  It also involves a one year loss of license and an interlock system placed on your vehicle for one year.  Plus the cost of ASAP.  A restricted license can be granted, but not if you hold a commercial driver's license.

 Household Consequences

               This affects all drivers in the household.  If convicted the driver and everybody in that household will likely lose their insurance coverage.  The drive becomes a sign risk and has to obtain an SR‑22 policy. This also affects credit ratings, life insurance coverage and all insurance coverage.  The average cost of a DUI is $10,000.00.  So take a cab.

 Driving under the influence and Wrecks

                If you injury someone or kill them while under the influence you are in serious trouble.  This  includes all watercraft.    You could be charged with manslaughter.  This is a felony and carries a penalty up to 10 years or aggravated manslaughter that carries a penalty of 1-20 years.  One year is mandatory jail time for aggravated manslaughter.


                Is a class one misdemeanor and loss of license.  It also has the same household affects on credit ratings, life insurance  and so forth.  So take an attorney.  These are worth fighting.

                Reckless driving is 80 mph  or above regardless of the posted speed.  And driving speed   2o mph over the speed limit.     The general definition is driving in any manner so as to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person shall be guilty of reckless driving.  There are many defenses to reckless driving.

                Both DUI and reckless driving have an impact on security clearances required by Federal and State employers.  This also applies to private companies  such as banks.

 Bottom Line

                Driving offenses can have a very broad impact on your life and your family.  So chose wisely if you want an attorney and who you chose.  Simply speeding tickets, improper equipment, invalid licenses, driving on suspended drivers' licenses all  have an impact.
